Smooth Operation

With Turnberry now running the show at the Fountainebleau instead of Hilton, I was pleased to see how smooth their hotel operations are running.

Turnberry has a billion dollar plan for the iconic 22 acre site. The main section of the old Fontainebleau is closed while renovations take place. Fontainebleau III is still in the midst of construction, yet somehow, while on the property and surrounded by such activities, the property is held in an orderly fashion. I’m talking one of the neatest construction sites one can imagine. Recently, I took these pictures from a unit on the 27th floor.

What does Turnberry have planned?

  • Resort guests visiting a new two-story, 40,000 square-foot Spa of the Fontainebleau will discover the European tradition of healing with water.
  • The five-star, two-story, 40.000 sq ft spa guests will have 33 treatment rooms, comprised of 21 massage rooms, six facial rooms, two wet/dry treatment rooms, two couple’s massage suites and two deluxe Fontainebleau spa suites with Vichy shower.
  • This sophisticated haven will be dotted by an intricately placed collection of pools and water wells, from small, refreshing areas for dipping to an oasis pool surrounding a cabana to a huge free-form swimming pool.
  • A total of 150,000 sq ft of flexible and diverse meeting and pre-function space, Fontainebleau Miami Beach will easily and graciously accommodate groups of up to 3,000 with contemporary, stylish facilities.
  • A total of 66,000 sq ft is found in three ballrooms, complemented by the flexibility of 58 meeting rooms and two permanent boardrooms.
  • Additional convenience will be offered through a meeting center with nearly 19,000 sq ft of space and a full-service business center offering a complete array of office equipment and facsimile services.
  • Outdoors, a full 51,000 sq ft of function space will include the 21,000 sq ft great lawn. Meeting planners will be able to register attendees at dedicated registration counters, and a separate conference entrance will be available for buses and group arrivals and departures.
  • The Fontainebleau will boast 1,504 committable guest rooms and suites.
  • Almost 700 rooms will be available as studio, one-bedroom or two-bedroom suites in our two luxury hotel towers.

  1. …but will they bring back the mural? I shouldn’t be picky, given the rave review you’re giving them, but I’d bet that the ghost of the Firestone Mansion is yearning to reappear.

  2. I keep on hearing complaints about losing the mural. I understand. I grew up looking at it. In a way, it sucks that they scrapped it, but the developer had to maximize land use.
